Inspiration
I wanted to build something that turns startup failures into learning opportunities. Everyone talks about successful startups, but I felt the real lessons are hidden in the companies that failed.
What it does
DEADCOMPANY lets users investigate failed startups, explore their timelines, simulate alternate decisions, generate lesson cards and even compare their own startup ideas against past failure patterns.
How we built it
I built it using MeDo with a mix of LLM search, web search, image generation and data analysis skills/plugins. I switched between Fast Build and Deep Build modes depending on the task. I also asked why a particular issue happened, eg. - Why are idea comparisons not getting saved in the user profile? Then it came with a fix and an explanation of the problem. This helped me to understand the problems better and extend new features efficiently.
Challenges we ran into
Making sure that the reports, lesson cards and multi-turn chat gets saved to user profiles so that the user can quickly head over to it without having to perform entire analysis of the same company again was the main challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that the project feels like a real product instead of just a demo. The investigation reports, startup comparisons and lesson card generation came out really well.
What we learned
I learned a lot about structuring prompts and building products faster with AI tools. I also realized how important good product thinking is while building AI apps. Its important that you do not over-complicate it in the beginning by listing out all the features, start slowly and then add features when required. Eg - I did not start with an authentication first but when I felt the need to save assets for the user, I asked MeDo to implement it.
What's next for DEADCOMPANY
I want to add more startups to the database and improve the simulations making them more interactive for the user. I would also love to add community features into the product.
