Inspiration
The current implementations of speedometers on Android are either GPS/Internet-based, making them susceptible to come with a horde of unremovable ads, or come with limited functionality.
What it does
This app uses the accelerometer on a cellphone, old or new, to determine the velocity of the phone.
How we built it
Android Studio using Kotlin
Challenges we ran into
This was our first time using Android Studio and Kotlin, and even my conservative feature sets were becoming Hail Maries. In the end, we had to keep it simple to meet the deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The fact that the app works in the first place
What we learned
This was generally a learning experience for mobile app development, especially when my prior experience was for desktop programs or web apps and websites. It also opened our eyes to our current limitations of our prowess, which we wish to close such gaps during our college years.
What's next for Dead Reckoning Speedometer
Fix the bugs with accelerometer calculations, add an analog, instrument-cluster style reading
Built With
- android-studio
- kotlin
