In Legal Tech track the partner asked us to: “Help our clients and lawyers track the progress of a project” and to: “Create a solution that provides a price estimate for project”.
The key feature seemed to be the transparency in the clients perspective.
Unfortunately the costs and time does not always go evenly over time, even though the pricing in practice of law is based on billable hours. We took into account the fact that legal work is in disruption, and lawyers can`t lay only on billable hours in the future.
Although that assignments are very unique, there are certain parameters that defines the projects: We started with by collecting information about cartel cases (we got excel sheet with detailed assignment information from various projects).Certain tasks repeated in similar projects. We priced the tasks by counting the average time taken for a task and so we were able to construct a price per task.
Chess Game Example:
Average of moves per game: 40 moving the Soldier: 150,00 € Average: 9 times 1250,00 € moving the Knight: 250,00 € Average: 5 times 1250,00 € moving the Pawn: 310,00 € Average: 10 times 3100,00€
moving the Rook: 500,00 € per square Average: 3 times ( 10 squares) 5000,00 €
moving the Queen: 800,00 € per square Average: 5 times (12 squares) 8160,00 € Checkmate: 40000,00 € Draw: 10 000,00 €
Costs estimated: If win by checkmate: 68 760,00 € If draw: 28 760,00 €
Clients don’t need to know how long you think about your moves – they only care about the moves and their values.
