Inspiration
Seeing a child in volunteering organization suffer with eczema first hand, I also heard about struggle with deciding on clothes that don't irritate her every morning. I derived this application idea from wanting to help them.
What it does
Helps consumers search for clothings while seeing clothing textile materials in a glance so they can evaluate suitability for their skin whether they have eczema or sensitivity.
How we built it
Researched impact of clothing textile on one's skin, and finalized our topic decision to make searching application for sensitive skin demographics and eczema patients that provide at a glance information on clothing components below each product of numerous retail shops. We gave explicit and detailed instructions as a prompt into codex such as Keep and Do not ~ commands so that the website could stay easy to navigate, organized, and helpful without unecessary information grabbing their attention.
Challenges we ran into
While linking retail shops into the system in order to demonstrate the system's function, we ran into concern that reusing information in their sites may be unethical, and even illegal. After research we discovered that the legal conflicts may be a real problem we ensured we had an answer as to how to mitigate this problem if this system was adapted, hypothetically. Some examples include, making sure we have official affiliation API instead of blind scraping of data online. For another concern that consumers may find this system misleading as a medical or professional reocmmendation, we ensured that we also have a solution for that, which would be to enforce strict, lawyer approved terms of service and disclaimer that our site does not provide medical help and they must cross verify with retail shops before purchasing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team went over repetitive cycles of system testing and noting down details to change, making sure the language would communicate clearly to codex that will execute building under our strict instructions. With this process, we achieved deliberate and efficient attention to detail for our site.
What we learned
We, as a team, learned that specific and deliberate prompt input for codex was of high importance for achieving efficient model, and that real life adaption may bring complications often overlooked during building stage. We also learned, while researching this problem, how important it is to have transparent product detail listing for poopulation like our target consumer to shop safely.
What's next for DA Hacks - Eczema friendly clothes searching tool
Next steps can be developing the website into a more reliable and detailed clothing searching platform. Potential improvements include omitting unnecessary data about product, expanding our database for retail shops, add verification method for each product's material compositions to increase accuracy. We could also gain from collecting user feedback for the demo version to find other problems. Add other preferences filter by adding a more structured data verifying and organizing system.
