Inspiration

Our inspiration for DCAcademy comes from the PIMCO challenge's prompt, which emphasizes creating a solution that fosters positive financial habits and assists individuals in achieving their financial objectives, particularly in the realm of retirement investing.

What it does

DCAcademy is an educational platform that demystifies investing in the S&P 500 and Bitcoin via Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA). It features calculators for projecting potential returns based on varying investment amounts and intervals, supplemented by educational resources to deepen understanding of DCA and foundational investment principles. The platform is tailored for both novices and seasoned investors with a focus on long-term growth and retirement readiness.

How we built it

We developed DCAcademy using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with Python and Flask. A notable feature, powered by the Alpha Vantage API, assesses monthly stock performance to guide users in making informed investment decisions during their scheduled investment periods, particularly if a stock's value has recently decreased.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was mastering the formatting nuances of the website, as we were new to HTML and CSS. Without prior best practices in mind, we had to learn and adapt as we progressed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully navigated every challenge encountered, and we're proud to have completed our first-ever web project from scratch. It was a significant first for both of us, and the experience of bringing it to TAMUhackx was exciting.

What we learned

Our journey taught us valuable lessons in teamwork and collaboration, particularly using Git and GitHub. We gained practical insights into how different languages, frameworks, and technologies work to solve real-world problems.

What's next for DCAcademy

Further development may include personalized investment advice, integration with financial accounts, and broader asset class coverage. The goal is to make DCAcademy a more comprehensive tool for financial planning and education, particularly for retirement investing.
