Inspiration
Small business owners need AI agents but lack technical expertise. Developers want to offer AI solutions but spend hours on custom configurations. DayZero bridges this gap: developers install one skill, business owners configure through conversation.
What it does
DayZero creates complete voice agents through a simple phone conversation:
For Developers: Install @dayzero/voice-onboard and get an instant onboarding service For Business Owners: Call one number, describe your business in 60 seconds, receive a working agent
Target Market: Small businesses (restaurants, hotels, local shops) with 20-200 customers who need voice automation but can't afford custom development.
How we built it
User Flow:
1. Developer discovers DayZero on Shipables.dev
2. Installs skill: shipables install @dayzero/voice-onboard
3. System provides universal onboarding number
4. Business owner calls and describes their business (60s conversation)
5. DayZero generates custom agent with new phone number
6. Agent handles real customer calls with payments/notifications
Technical Stack:
• Vapi: Powers both onboarding conversation and generated agents
• Redis: Stores session state and conversation memory
• InsForge: Auto-generates and deploys backend configurations
• Guild.ai: Provides audit trail of all commercial actions
• OpenAI: Converts natural conversation into structured YAML configs
Challenges we faced
Designing the conversation flow to capture complex business rules naturally while maintaining the line between "skill" and "full product." Ensuring the generated agents can handle real payments, scheduling, and notifications out-of-the-box.
What we learned
Voice-first configuration is incredibly intuitive for non-technical users. The psychological design of conversation flow (led by our UX psychologist) matters more than technical complexity.
What's next
Expanding to specialized industry flows (restaurants vs. hotels vs. retail), integration with more business tools, and white-label distribution for development agencies.
