Inspiration

As a student, I often find it difficult to manage assignments, revision, and daily study goals together. Sometimes I plan my entire day, but unexpected things happen, and I end up with several unfinished tasks.

I wanted to build something that could help students not only organize their tasks but also figure out what to do when their plans go wrong.

That's how I came up with DayWise, an AI-powered smart daily planner.

I was also inspired by the idea of conversational assistants like Alexa+, which can make everyday tasks easier through intelligent interactions.

What it does

DayWise is a web application designed to help students manage their daily productivity.

It includes six main features:

  • Dashboard: View daily tasks and overall progress.
  • Task Management: Add tasks, set priorities, and mark tasks as completed.
  • Build My Plan: Organize pending tasks into a daily study plan.
  • Focus Mode: Use a 25-minute focus timer to concentrate on important work.
  • Analytics: Track completed tasks, study time, and productivity.
  • Rescue My Day: Get an AI-generated recovery plan based on available time, energy level, and the current situation.
  • AI Assistant: Ask questions about study planning, time management, and productivity.

One of the most important features is Rescue My Day . Instead of giving up when a day doesn't go as planned, students can use AI to reorganize their remaining time.

How we built it

I built DayWise using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend.

For the backend, I used Node.js and Express.js to handle API requests and application functionality.

I integrated Supabase to store tasks, task activity, and focus sessions.

For AI functionality, I used the Google Gemini API, which powers the conversational AI Assistant and Rescue My Day feature.

I used GitHub to manage the source code and Render to deploy the application.

For the Alexa+ track, DayWise explores a simulated conversational assistant experience using Gemini. It is not a direct Alexa+ integration.

Challenges we ran into

One of my biggest challenges was connecting the frontend, backend, database, and AI features into one working application.

I faced several problems with CSS styling, navigation, JavaScript functionality, and database integration.

Another challenge was making sure tasks and productivity data remained saved after refreshing the application.

I also had to debug deployment-related issues and test each feature on the live website.

Making the AI features useful for real student situations was another interesting challenge. I wanted the AI to provide practical suggestions rather than just generic answers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud that I was able to turn my idea into a working full-stack web application.

Some of my biggest accomplishments are:

  • Building and deploying DayWise as a functional web application.
  • Integrating Google Gemini for AI-powered productivity assistance.
  • Creating the Rescue My Day feature to help students recover from disrupted schedules.
  • Implementing task persistence using Supabase.
  • Building Focus Mode and productivity analytics.
  • Creating a responsive interface with six main navigation sections.
  • Successfully testing the major features on the deployed website.

The biggest achievement for me was seeing the different features work together as one complete project.

What we learned

Building DayWise helped me improve my understanding of full-stack web development.

I learned how to work with REST APIs, connect a database, integrate AI services, and deploy an application.

I also gained practical experience in debugging JavaScript, improving responsive layouts, and solving problems during deployment.

Most importantly, I learned that creating a useful application is not just about writing code. It's about understanding a real problem and building something that makes people's lives easier.

What's next for DayWise – AI-Powered Smart Daily Planner

I want to continue improving DayWise and make it more useful for students.

My future plans include:

  • Adding voice-based task management.
  • Exploring deeper Alexa+ and agent-based integrations.
  • Implementing smarter reminders and notifications.
  • Adding customizable focus timer durations.
  • Improving AI-generated daily schedules.
  • Creating more personalised productivity insights.

My long-term vision is to make DayWise a smart study companion that helps students plan better, stay focused, and make the most of their day.
