Inspiration
Music can capture many moments and moods of everyday life, from small moments such as coffee days and morning walks to bigger events such as weddings, graduations and even concerts. The idea of creating a music app to help capture these moments in songs and/or playlists came from a hackathon idea on ChatGPT, and from then on, DayList came to life.
What it does
DayList is an app that can generate playlists and song recommendations based on certain events of the day prompted by the user. How it works is that the user will go on DayList app; log into Spotify and then be redirected to DayList to prompt some events of their day. DayList will then generate the prompt using Gemini API to suggest five songs based on the mood of the day.
How we built it
We used React for the frontend, and integrated Spotify API for login purposes and the Gemini API for generating the songs and captions and moods for the prompted events.
Challenges we ran into
Two of the biggest challenges we ran into were connecting the frontend and backends for DayList, as well as integrating the Spotify and Gemini APIs with each other.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully got the APIs working with each other for backend and connected the backend to the frontend.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to implement backend technologies such as Spotify and Gemini APIs into DayList and how to integrate the backend with the React frontend code.
What's next for DayList
We were going to incorporate the photo uploading feature into DayList, but unfortunately due to time constraints and problems with the backend, we did not get there in time. I think I could handle that on my own if I get time.
