Inspiration
The idea for DayCanvas emerged from personal struggles with emotional awareness. I noticed how people often find it difficult to process their feelings through traditional journaling alone. This led to the concept of transforming written experiences into visual stories, making emotions more tangible and easier to understand.
What it does
DayCanvas converts daily journal entries into animated story sequences. Users write about their day, and our platform transforms their experiences into fantasy-style visual narratives, creating a parallel universe that reflects their emotional journey in a creative and engaging way.
How we built it
We developed a system that combines the "Claude Sonnet 3.5" model for natural language processing to analyze emotional content with AI-powered image generation and convert it into a storyline with multiple frames like in an anime comic. The platform creates cohesive animated sequences by using the "Google Imagen3" model while maintaining an intuitive journaling interface that prioritizes emotional expression and reflection.
Challenges we ran into
- Creating appropriate visual metaphors for complex emotions
- Ensuring the visuals enhance rather than distract from emotional processing
- Balancing artistic interpretation with personal authenticity
- Struggled with weak hardware for generating images on our machines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Developed an innovative approach to emotional wellness through visual storytelling
- Created a platform that makes journaling more engaging and insightful
- Successfully merged therapeutic benefits with creative expression
What we learned
- The potential AI models hold for emotional well-being
- The profound impact of visual metaphors on emotional understanding
- The importance of making mental wellness tools accessible and engaging
- How to effectively blend technology with emotional expression
What's next for DayCanvas
We plan to introduce customizable visualization styles, develop community features for shared experiences, and implement AI improvements for more nuanced emotional interpretation by video outputs.
