Inspiration News is easy to find, but hard to digest quickly and trust. I built DayBrief to turn current news into a short, evidence-grounded briefing that highlights only the most important stories and delivers them in under a minute.

What It Does DayBrief:

  • Retrieves current news with Tavily
  • Groups related articles into coherent events
  • Uses NVIDIA Nemotron via Nebius Token Factory to extract, verify, rank, and summarize key claims
  • Generates a concise narration and animated briefing
  • Caches recent high-quality briefings to reduce unnecessary regeneration

How I Built It Tavily ↓ News Retrieval ↓ Filtering & Event Clustering ↓ NVIDIA Nemotron ↓ Claim Extraction & Verification ↓ Story Ranking ↓ Narration + Animated Briefing The backend uses Python, FastAPI, and Redis. The frontend is built with React and TypeScript. The application is containerized with Docker Compose, uses Nginx for routing, and is deployed on a Nebius VM.

Challenges The biggest challenge was grounding. Early versions could verify individual claims correctly but still combine articles describing different events into one story. I added stronger event-level coherence checks and multi-source verification to prevent unrelated claims from being merged. Another challenge was keeping the final narration within the target runtime. I added strict script-length validation and compression so useful stories are preserved without exceeding the briefing limit.

What I Learned The biggest lesson was that reliable AI applications need more than a strong model. Retrieval, event coherence, verification, schema validation, caching, and deterministic guardrails are all critical to producing trustworthy output. I also learned that separating retrieval from reasoning makes the system easier to control: Tavily provides current information, while Nemotron performs reasoning and synthesis over that evidence.

What’s Next Next steps include better event clustering, personalized news categories, improved animations, faster generation, and more scalable deployment on Nebius. DayBrief is ultimately about making AI-generated news not just concise, but also grounded, coherent, and verifiable.
