Inspiration

As of May 31st, 2025, Quebec has over 30 000 children on the waiting list for a government-subsidized daycare. Given that women are seen as the primary caretakers, their potential is limited by the constant need to be by their children's side. Women deserve a break, even if only for a day. Day4Care is here to help.

What it does

Day4Care is an online pairing platform that pairs parents on the government-subsidized daycare waitlist with a daycare that has empty spots for the day. This allows women, mostly, to go to a job interview, medical appointment or simply, to just have the day off. Our booking system allows for parents-in-need to book a potential slot 2 weeks in advance. The customization options include distance to daycare (map), type of daycare (private/public) and price range. Our system updates and notifies the parents on the day of their scheduled slot. Integrated AI speech-to-text and language translation allow parents from marginalized communities to seamlessly navigate our operating system.

How we built it

Our project was made using generative AI, Geocode, open source API from the Quebec Government, Google Gemini for AI implementation and filtering system and Puter.js for voice analysis.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest technical challenges we can into was to research, find and extract all the geocodes for all the existing daycares in Quebec and implement them in the map.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Day4Care provides a novel strategy to fill temporarily unavailable daycare spots and allocate them to those who need them. Our project allows those who are most vulnerable to empower themselves through access to affordable quality childcare. We were able to create a working interactive map with Geocode and we also integrated AI speech to text technology for accessibility.
