Inspiration

Caring for yourself should feel welcoming even when life interrupts your routine. Day Bloom began with a simple idea: give small moments of care a place to grow. A supportive thought, an honest moment of reflection, or a few words about your day can become something you can return to: your own Inner Garden.

What it does

Day Bloom connects a Daily Seed, a personal Moment, and lasting garden growth in one native iPhone experience.

  • Start gently. Discover a Daily Seed and choose a small intention for your day.
  • Make space for yourself. Check in with your mood and energy, pause for focus, and reflect through writing, gratitude, photos, drawings, or voice notes.
  • See care take root. Your first saved Moment each day nurtures your Inner Garden. Collect plants and arrange a space that feels like yours.
  • Keep what matters. Revisit your journal and intentionally save meaningful Moments in the Memory Jar.

Growth is permanent. Missing a day does not destroy your plants or erase your progress. The garden gives you a reason to return without turning care for yourself into another obligation.

How we built it

Day Bloom is built with Swift and SwiftUI, with a SpriteKit garden embedded in the native interface. Core Data stores Moments, journals, plants, care days, and milestones on the device. An observable view model connects saved reflection to garden state, so the visual response follows real progress.

App Groups support shared Daily Seed content across Apple experiences, including the Home Screen widget. Product analytics are routed separately from private journal content.

RevenueCat powers Day Bloom Plus: loading offerings, checking introductory eligibility, purchases, restoration, and subscription entitlement updates. Plus expands creation and personalization while the core reflection ritual remains available for free. Saved journal history and earned plants remain available when a subscription ends.

Challenges we faced

The hardest product question was how to reward consistency without punishing absence. We chose lasting plant progress and gentle language, so returning after a difficult week still feels like coming home.

Technically, coordinating SpriteKit animation, SwiftUI state, and Core Data required careful boundaries: saving a Moment must update the garden reliably while the interface stays responsive. Rich reflection tools also needed to feel optional and approachable, rather than turn a short reflection into a long form.

Subscription design posed another important challenge: sustainable monetization must respect the personal value of what people create. We separated access to new premium creation from continued access to saved history and earned plants.

Accomplishments

Day Bloom brings reflection, collection, and an expressive garden into one coherent daily ritual. The most meaningful outcome is that its product design and monetization follow the same principle: what you have grown should stay yours.

What we learned

A supportive experience depends on small decisions: what happens after a missed day, how much a reflection asks of someone, and what remains when a subscription ends. Animation is most useful when it makes a real action feel acknowledged.

Building Day Bloom also deepened our experience with SwiftUI and SpriteKit integration, local persistence, shared extension data, and reliable subscription state.

What's next

Our next focus is refining the experience during the first week, improving the clarity of the journey from reflection to garden growth, and learning which small rituals people choose to return to. We want Day Bloom to become a familiar place for a little care, at your own pace.
