Inspiration

Hi, I'm Ingo, the creator of DawnPal. I made the app because I wanted a perfect start of the day for myself, and my friends.

What it does

DawnPal uses your location to determine sunrise time. It then calculates the ideal bedtime based on your sleep duration.

The app’s functions are explained on the onboarding screen, which you can access via the settings.

How I built it

I built it using Flutter in April. I started to learn market research at the time. I didn't see a big market for DawnPal, got a little depressed about it, and moved on unpublished.

Later the wonderful people of RevenueCat came around, and started this hackaton. And here we are :)

Challenges I ran into

The last 1% always takes another 99% for me, it seems.

The icon was much harder this time - AI is not well trained on sunset alarm icons ;-) I learned a lot about combining generation techniques, so it was worth the effort.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

1st Paywall integration, 1st internet $ - that's really something!

I'm proud of the design, everything plays well together e.g. in the Screenshots. I didn't dare to tackle design in my WebDev days - happy I did now, finally!

What I learned

An MVP takes too long at the moment - I need more infrastructure code base for my projects, this will compound soon.

What's next for DawnPal

I got 2 purchases in the first week! Not many downloads, but maybe there is something to work with.

Following actual ASO rankings after release, there seems to be a promising small niche with not even a handful of Apps. I guess I will pivot there :)

Once it lifts off some, I will release it to the more painful Playstore, too.
