Inspiration
With the service we offer, event showcasing becomes much easier. Whether it's a private or public event, we provide a simple solution for event creation and RSVP management. We make it easy to keep track of attendees with the integration of RSVPs and a user-friendly interface. This allows us to effectively manage and showcase events to the right audience, streamlining the event organization process and reducing the stress and overwhelm.
What it does
Provides a Calendar to use and read for Students and Staff at UGA. This calendar will benefit my community. (State Farm).
How I built it
Originally was going to build it using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but I have little to 0 knowledge of that. I would not even know where to start. Then I came up with the idea of having a google site and embedding the HTML code that would run a dynamic calendar that could have events added to it from the website via an add event button. I would want it to go through a verification process to keep spam out of the calendar or anything inappropriate. I just do not possess the capabilities necessary to do it. I learned a lot about different parts of web dev that I really did not have a clue about.
Challenges I ran into
As mentioned above, I do not know how to code web app stuff at all. Like I had 0 clues and was doing it myself. Challenges I ran into include (but are definitely not limited to): coming up with the idea in the first place, trying to identify my "strong suits" and continuing the challenge with that in mind, thinking about how I would even begin to develop on mobile if I was able to figure how to do it on a computer, where I would store the information on the cloud, and how would it be accessed, and researching ideas on how to implement my calendar idea.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I did it, I mean with probably the least amount of code ever submitted to a hackathon, but still. I put myself through something I had no idea about because I had the slightest interest in it. I do not know how my product will be judged or how people will feel about it, but it barely works. Currently, the emails get sent to me and I manually add events in. This is not automated at all, but will be in the future when I figure out how to do it!
What I learned
I learned that I need to learn a whole lot more. I am way out of the loop when it comes to things like hackathons and I have also learned an important lesson that it may be easier in a group. I will view web app design and implementation of code in a new way because I did not know how tedious and tasking it is.
What's next for Dawg Calendar
Mobile integration (through an App rather than a website) / learning how to make it more customizable and provide RSVP, and public/private privileges.
