Usage of crowd source intelligence to block and stop robocalls in real time.
In essence we would use the people responding to / receiving the calls to "judge" if it is indeed a robocall and allow them to "vote" on this issue via the phone directly and/or internet directly.
Specifically ; *BS or *27 or a similar easy to remember "number." or www.killrobocalls.com
This would send the offending number to a central server / computer ; all telcos would subscribe to this service. Public pressure could be brought to bear as well as additional laws to force this on the phone companies as required.
Once enough "BS" votes have been received then a ROBOCALL to the ROBOCALLER would be made ; if they do not "receive" and reply to a challenge call ; the number is auto blocked and no further "calls out" from this number will occur for a period to be determined which is based on the number of "BS" votes, the rate they come in and so on...
This would effectively stop robo calls in real-time based on the actions of the people being offended and abused at the hands of said robocallers.
This would use the "annoyance factor" directly against the "robocaller" ; and the penalty would be a measure of how many people were annoyed in X period of time.
Example: 1000 BS votes appear in 1 hour = block robocaller number for 3 hours. 1000 BS votes appear in 1 minute = block robocaller number for 1 day.
Repeat offenses over "X" time period would multiple the block times.
Since the robocallers would not be able to "dial" additional numbers for X period of time the profit in doing this kind of activity would quickly go down the drain so to speak and that would end robo calling or at least make it very unprofitable.
TECH APPLICATION:
Because phone companies can easily track incoming / outgoing calls and already have a "* service" available ; this would simply be an extension of a current service. Phone companies could even charge a premium which people would gladly pay for. A $1 per month = no robocalls ; not a hard sell.
So this "upgrade" would be self funding.
AS for the person receiving the call ; dialing *BS or even reporting the number online at a website is a straight forward system ... and since the blocks could occur in real-time ; this would benefit everyone AND create a "blacklist" and create a "fine list" too.
This is a simple solution which would literally put the power back in the people's hands so to speak and use crowd level "judgments" against the robocallers - which pre-cludes any technical innovation the robocallers come up with because the solution is "human annoyance and response" not software, not hardware or other technical method which are easy to "fool".
A robocall is like porn... anyone that receives a robocall instantly can recognize it and that is what will be used to report and stop it.
