We saw Bret Victor's piece on what technologists can do about climate change. His arguments, combined with the prominence of polling in the past election, led us to address long-standing issues in contemporary discourse. Most facts and statistics are presented entirely without context, challenging even trained scientists and statisticians. This inhibits transparency in how policy decisions are defended and made and can lead to gross misunderstandings of reality.
What it does
For authors (journalists and academics primarily), this user-friendly editing experience makes it easy to embed models and explain the reasoning behind all data being presented. For readers, these interactive documents help clarify the tradeoffs and assumptions being made.
How I built it
We created a React+Redux app that parses our custom Markdown-based authoring format and renders a live-updating interactive document.
