Graphical display of USPTO patent database, showing the relationships between all the references (cited references, references of references, etc., and citing references). All fields could be toggled on and off:

Abstract, Agent, Application Date, Application Number, Assignees, Examiner, Exemplary Claim, Foreign Refs, Front Page, US Classes, Inventors, Inventor Residence, Issue Date, IPC Orig Patent Number, Other Refs, Parent Case Text, Patent Number, PCT Filing Date, PCT Number, PCT Pub Date, PCT Pub Number, PCT 102E, Date PCT 371, Date, Primary US Classes, Priority Data, Secondary US Classes, Status, Title

Horizontal axis is the year, vertical is the patent classification.

Using US patent classifications for a particular patent, which have both US and Int'l classifications, Datasplay can deduce what a certain foreign classification would be in the US system. For example,

A US Patent states, for example, that the primary classes are [US Class 1 and Int'l Class 2]; and A Foreign Patent states that its primary classification is [Class 2] Therefore, the Foreign Patent is equivalent to US Class 1.

Graphical displays currently available are expensive and require monthly subscriptions or are limited or trial versions. They are also cumbersome and complicated to use. However, data is more available in recent years due to cheaper technology, multi core processors, expanded bandwidth, etc.

Keyword or publication numbers should be searchable, as could any other field available via the patent database (inventor, assignee, etc.).

Finally, figures from the patents would be parsed and organized along the bottom to correspond with the years.

Patent families would also be parsed to show parent/child relationship. Finally, if a patent was involved in litigation, a small thunderbolt would appear in the icon (see above). Such information would be parsed from the wrapper. If Form AO-120 is in the wrapper, the patent was litigated.

Wordclouds and social networking would also be incorporated. Datasplay would have no login required and no fees.
