Inspiration
As someone who’s seen friends struggle to break into tech from non-technical careers, I wanted to build a streamlined path to data science—no overwhelming jargon, no endless subscriptions, just structured, actionable learning that fits a 5-hour weekly schedule. The gap between "beginner" and "job-ready" felt too big for many, so this course was born to close that gap.
What it does
This 12-week browser-based platform turns complete beginners into job-ready data analysts. It offers structured weekly curricula, in-browser interactive practice, real-world dataset projects, 24/7 AI support, and a shareable completion certificate—all for a one-time $199 fee with lifetime access.
How we built it
We started with mapping the 12-week curriculum to align with entry-level job requirements, then designed a clean, minimalist UI (focused on readability and ease of use) with Figma. We built the frontend with React, integrated a code execution interface for practice, and added a global AI assistant panel with quick question shortcuts for accessibility.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was balancing simplicity (for true beginners) with depth (to build job-ready skills)—we had to trim complex technical explanations without losing critical concepts. We also struggled to design the progress tracking system to feel motivating, not overwhelming, for learners with busy schedules.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a platform that’s fully browsable and intuitive, with real-world project galleries that mirror actual industry datasets (e.g., E-Commerce Sales, User Retention Analysis). The AI assistant panel is tailored to beginner questions, and the certificate design is professional and shareable to LinkedIn—something learners can truly showcase.
What we learned
We learned that beginner-focused design means prioritizing clarity over complexity: sans-serif fonts, left-aligned content, and ample white space make the platform accessible to non-technical users. We also realized how valuable structured, time-bound learning is—5 hours/week feels manageable, which keeps learners engaged.
What's next for This project
We plan to add more industry-specific dataset projects (healthcare, finance), expand the AI assistant to cover more advanced data manipulation questions, and introduce mobile optimization for on-the-go learning. We also want to partner with entry-level tech employers to validate the certificate for job applications.
