Inspiration
In many regions, access to practical, lab-based learning in healthcare and science is limited. Most education is theoretical, with little opportunity to interact with real datasets or collaborate with experts.
We were inspired to bridge this gap by creating a platform where users can work with real data, simulate lab environments, and collaborate remotely, making practical learning more accessible and scalable.

⚙️ What it does
DataLabs is a digital platform that provides interactive lab environments across different domains such as healthcare (HealthLabs) and science.
It allows users to:
upload and manage datasets annotate and analyze images work in collaborative lab workspaces track experiments and activities participate in structured learning and assessments
How we built it
We designed and developed a high-fidelity frontend prototype that simulates the core workflow of the platform.
The system includes:
a modular UI structure dataset library and management interface annotation and labeling tools workspace and activity tracking system
We used modern web technologies and simulated backend interactions using mock data to ensure a smooth and realistic demo experience.
Challenges we ran into
Time constraints due to academic commitments limited full implementation Managing the scope of a large system while focusing on a clear prototype Designing a system that is both simple to demonstrate and scalable in concept Ensuring the demo remains stable and reliable without a full backend
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a clear and functional prototype in a short time Designed an intuitive digital lab experience Demonstrated collaborative workflows using datasets Maintained a scalable system design despite limited implementation
What we learned
The importance of focusing on core features rather than overbuilding How to design systems with scalability and modularity in mind The value of user experience in communicating complex ideas How to work effectively under time and resource constraints
What's next for DataLabs
Develop full backend infrastructure and APIs Implement real-time collaboration and session management Integrate machine learning for data analysis and labeling Add 3D visualization for advanced lab simulations Expand modules such as HealthLabs and ChemLabs Prepare the platform for real-world deployment and scaling
