Inspiration

We were inspired by the hidden carbon cost of digital clutter. People rarely connect their files to climate change, and we wanted to make that link visible.

What it does

DataEmissions connects to Google Drive, shows the carbon footprint of stored files, and educates users with insights, tips, and an AI climate bot.

How we built it

We combined a React dashboard with Google Drive integration, added charts for visualization, and built AI features for file suggestions, quizzes, and climate Q&A. I used groq api for ai integrations.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing technical complexity with user trust was tough , especially around file access and deletion. We also had to simplify complex climate data into clear visuals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a working prototype that not only tracks storage but also teaches climate literacy in a fun, interactive way.

What we learned

We learned how digital behavior impacts the planet, how to simplify climate data for users, and how AI can make education more engaging.

What's next for DataEmissions

We plan to expand beyond Google Drive, add collective impact tracking, and partner with schools and organizations to spread climate awareness.
