Managing recipes shouldn't be complicated, but existing apps either lack smart features or hide everything behind paywalls. We wanted to build something that's genuinely useful for free while offering AI-powered features that actually matter—especially for people with dietary restrictions like heart or kidney conditions who need to modify recipes but don't know how.
What it does
DataBaste is an iOS recipe organizer with AI-powered smarts:
- Import recipes from common recipe sites like AllRecipes, Food Network, and more—paste a URL and the app extracts ingredients and instructions
- Smart Grocery Lists — select multiple recipes and AI consolidates ingredients into one organized shopping list, grouped by store section
- Health Modifications — transform any recipe into heart-friendly or kidney-friendly versions with ingredient substitutions, explanations, and before/after nutrition comparison
- Recipe Generator — enter what's in your pantry or fridge and get AI-generated recipes using those ingredients
- Meal Planning — generate personalized 7-day meal plans based on your budget, cooking complexity, dietary needs, and cuisine preferences
- Nutrition Analysis — get detailed per-serving nutritional breakdowns across 14 metrics
- Recipe Sharing — share recipes with friends and family via a custom .databaste file format with Quick Look previews
All recipe storage is local on your device—no registration required.
How we built it
- SwiftUI for a modern, declarative UI
- SwiftData for on-device persistence (no backend needed)
- RevenueCat for subscription management with RevenueCatUI paywalls
- AI integration for intelligent recipe generation, health modifications, and meal planning
