What it does

How much does each country's economic development depend on int'l loans/aid? I attempted to visualize this through an interactive map built from data on the amount (in USD) of IBRD loans and IDA credits each country received.

How we built it

I first analyzed and cleaned the dataset (offered by Worldbank) in Excel. Then, I used Python to further organize it to be plotted & implemented on the web using Plotly.

Challenges we ran into

Ran out of time for debugging! This was my first time visualizing data and using Plotly. At the end of the submission period, I've ran out of time to debug the display of the interactive map. Although I didn't have time to finish debugging the map for this hackathon, I will continue to work on it as I have learned a lot through this first data visualization experience :)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Challenging myself to try the economics track despite not having experience in this field.
  2. Learned how to select good datasets, clean data, and communicate work as a complete newbie to data visualization prior to this.
  3. Having (almost) done my first data visualization! and knowing what future steps to take to further my journey with data visualization.

** We can only demo our code right now (unfortunately the map isn't displaying properly - but I'm working on that!)
