Inspiration
Picture this! Four strangers, stumble upon one another in a discord #general server. One has the bright idea of teaming up with other beginners. This + the butterfly effect lead to the inception of a COVID stats website, the likes of which the world has never seen!!!
What it does
Our project takes a CDC database and presents it on a website.
How we built it
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure... We used Dreamweaver, html/CSS, python, flask, Jingo, MySQL, and python SQL.
Challenges we ran into
We had originally planned on using PostgreSQL but didn't. I had never used XD, Dreamweaver, or HTML/CSS, so doing front end in them was a constant Google search. Coordinating the entire stack was also challenging. This is because we knew what each program/language did by itself, but not exactly how to glue them. We were also all on different sleep schedules.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the project in general. We were all excited to learn and feel like we did.
What we learned
We learned how to connect a database using python/Jingo, about HTML, Dreamweaver, that XD is not that useful, and that not every database is immediately useable. This isn't mentioning things outside of our project, like the live sessions, what a hackathon is like, and how great UPE's discord is.
What's next for Data Presentation about Covid 19 In the US
To be honest, this is a project we're all likely to end here. However! The lessons we learned have carried us all further towards our careers and individual projects!
