Tired of poring over ugly spreadsheets? More people are turning to Data In Depth for the menial work. Whether you are looking for correlation, frequency, or something else, we can help you find it!
Inspiration: Interpreting an unknown dataset is difficult and can be daunting to many. To the more experienced, importing large datasets and coding out the data visualizations is a boring necessity before you reach the fun interpretations stage. This online data visualization tool was created in order to save everyone’s time by reading and generating visualizations that are accurate and easy to understand.
What it does: In the process of generating visualizations, the user is expected to upload the dataset and select specifically what features of the data they are looking for, along with the relevant variables. The code then prints out a pretty visualization for anyone to understand!
How we built it: We used Python data visualization algorithms to create the output which can be viewed on a Weblium website which serves as graphic user interface.
Challenges we ran into: We often came to a loss as to what an algorithm could do and what it couldn’t. Initially, we were overly ambitious and believed that the algorithm could identify the most relevant type of visualization and its variables on its own. After much thought, we decided that this first part was the human’s job. In the end, understanding the limitations of a computer sharpened the direction and purpose of our project. We are helping multi-tasking, time-optimizing adults, after all - not kindergarteners.
What we learned: We have learned to better use Python to create visualizations even with datasets across multiple levels. We have learned more about what kind of data is used in the Finance fields, and how to create a web.
** What's next for Data in Depth**: We are going to improve our product by optimizing the algorithms and utilizing the website to present the high-quality deliverable for potential clients
