Inspiration
I wanted to help people grasp insights, I used to stare at columns of numbers longing to turn them into stories everyone could understand. I believed in my vision but every chart felt like a locked door because clients could not read the graphs and explaining even the simplest insight to some clients took forever. In those quiet mornings I asked myself what truly mattered. I had watched friends struggling with startups, some pour their souls into bakeries yet still wonder which pastry would sell next. I have seen new researchers lying awake wrestling with spreadsheets in hopes of forecasting a future that could change lives. Their passion was undeniable yet their barrier was clarity. That awareness became my compass. Guided by principle centered leadership I asked what if data could speak in plain language and how could someone without a statistics degree unlock their own potential. With that clarity I sketched the first outline of Data Genie as a companion that listens to your goals and answers in terms you understand. When I saw this contest I assembled a team who shared my purpose and together we sat alongside the very people we hoped to serve. We sat with a florist who uploaded her sales history and shed tears when she saw which arrangements delighted her customers most. We sat with a social media manager sharing ten years of web and social media analytics who finally saw which posts drove real engagement. We sat with a public health researcher who provided a decade of patient and outcome data and at last could forecast trends in community wellbeing. We sat with an environmental advocate who brought climate impact records and found unexpected correlations that guided local action. We sat with an energy analyst who shared utilities usage over ten years and discovered efficiency gains that saved budgets and resources. And we sat with a community organizer who adjusted her budget on the spot because she finally trusted her forecasts. Each of those moments reminded me that empathy and precision are the heart of true innovation. Now when someone logs into Data Genie I feel that same quiet excitement I felt above that bookstore. Because this is more than tool it is a promise to every entrepreneur researcher and advocate who has ever stared at a spreadsheet and felt lost. It is proof that insight is not a luxury but a right belonging to anyone with a vision and the courage to ask what if. Its just a start, its a new beginning, if we put time and effort this tool can help out many businesses across the world.
What it does
Data Genie is a no-code analytics platform that acts as your personal data scientist. Simply upload your spreadsheets, and it transforms complex datasets into clear, actionable business insights. It cleans the data, then identifies key growth trends, forecasts sales, estimates market share, and detects anomalies that new business owners might overlook. With the click of a button it also explains insights if you do not want to look at the screen. It can give you deep analytics, insights and when you are ready you can run different scenerios.
Unlike general AI tools like ChatGPT, which rely heavily on prompts and lack context from structured business data, Data Genie is purpose-built for real business analysis. It doesn’t require you to ask the “right” question—it proactively analyzes your data and surfaces what matters most. No manual formatting, no vague answers—just focused, reliable insights tailored to your business.
The platform features two tailored modes: one for non-technical users who need simplified, guided insights, and another for data-savvy users who want deeper analytics with more control. Whether you're new to data or experienced in it, Data Genie adapts to your level and helps you make smarter, faster business decisions.
How we built it
We built this tool using Bolt.new, complemented by some custom coding, to help business professionals and aspiring data scientists unlock the power of their data without manual calculations or extensive technical expertise.

Challenges we ran into
Building our tool was a complex journey, marked by several significant challenges. We struggled to simplify data science outputs into user-friendly language without sacrificing accuracy, and balancing functionality with simplicity was a delicate task. Integrating multiple machine learning models and ensuring real-time performance was also technically demanding.
Platform and Integration Issues We encountered token management issues, with the project's scope triggering warnings and automatic file deletion. Manual intervention was necessary to preserve our code and ensure proper database integration. The platform's occasional misinterpretation of instructions led to errors and token consumption.
Deployment Hurdles Deploying on Netlify proved difficult from a user perspective, with numerous issues arising. In the end we went with our usual Vercel and it worked like a charm. Domain provider issues also plagued us with no response from support.
While exploring the potential of various development tools, we encountered challenges with deployment, custom domains, and support. Despite our enthusiasm to leverage these tools, issues and lack of human support hindered our progress, forcing us to pivot. We believe in the potential of these tools and would like to see them excel. Our intention is not to criticize, but to share our experiences and provide constructive feedback that can help improve the development ecosystem. By highlighting areas for growth, we hope to contribute to the evolution of these tools, making them more effective and user friendly for ourselves and our clients. Ultimately, our goal is to collaborate and drive progress, not to dismiss or disparage the tools themselves.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Please review and add accomplishments: 1) We created a working MVP that genuinely transforms raw data into actionable insights in seconds 2) Seeing non-technical users understand and make decisions from their data during testing was a major win 3) We also successfully integrated predictive models with a clean, intuitive UI that works. 4) We haven't found a data science related platform that anyone can use so this is the first of its kind tool that can help users and make data science simple and fun.
What we learned
We learned how important UX is when working with technical tools aimed at non technical users. We also deepened our understanding of forecasting models, NLP for explanations, and full-stack deployment. Most importantly, we learned how to distill complexity into clarity. We learned that Bolt can be used to create apps in a short timeframe. It is a perfect tool when time is short and you need a MVP in hand because from there you can present it to someone. We tried different experiments and found the best ways to give commands to bolt.
What's next for Data Genie
We plan to expand the feature set to include benchmarking tools, industry specific insights, and live dashboards for real-time decision making. We would like to add a video ai agent using Tavus in the future which could simply discuss the reports with our users giving it a human touch. In addition we plan to enhance audio insights using Elevenlabs. And other Integrations with platforms like Google Sheets, Slack, and e-commerce systems is also on the roadmap to streamline workflows even further.
Beyond features, our mission is to democratize access to data intelligence. We aim to make Data Genie a go-to learning and decision-support tool for university students, PhD researchers, and women entrepreneurs—groups that often face barriers in accessing or applying advanced analytics. By offering affordable, intuitive, and impactful tools, we want to empower these communities to unlock the full potential of their data and drive innovation from the ground up.
Long term, we envision Data Genie not just as a product, but as a movement to make data science more inclusive, practical, and universally empowering.
