Data Endoscope

Medical society uses the special software and software libraries for medical imaging problems. One of the issue they can have is how to see the part in very difficult place. They have to use lots of rotations, translations, slicing filters to make it possible.

We propose to use Oculus VR and Myo to manipulate the medical images easier.

We used Vtk library that is core of medical software like ParaView and Slicer 3D. We started with prototype of application visualizing simple 3D scene, projecting the scene on Oculus Rift glasses, and connecting Myo Armband with internal Vtk mechanism for manipulating Roll, Yaw and Pitch angles. We can now do zooming-in, zooming-out, rotating our scene.

The next step might be integrating the idea in ParaView software to help medical society (and maybe society of physics, mathematical simulation) to look at their data in new futuristic view.

We also came up with idea to combine two Myo Armbands to make other combinations available.
