Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project stemmed from a recurring challenge in my workflow: managing and tracking daily tasks extracted from various documents (like reports, XML, Doc or notes). These documents often contained important bullet points or to-do items, but there was no easy way to convert them into a checkable format to track progress daily.

I wanted a lightweight, flexible solution to:

  1. Parse tasks from documents
  2. Display them in a clean, tablet-style checklist
  3. Use this in a Jupyter Notebook for quick updates and tracking

This led me to build an automation tool using Python, combining web scraping, data wrangling, and interactive display in a notebook environment.

What it does

Basically It work as scheduling daily task mentioning in documents file in tablet check marks.

How we built it

  1. Reading the Document I used Python to load a sample HTML document containing bullet points.

  2. Structuring with Pandas I created a Pandas DataFrame to store tasks and checkboxes.

  3. Rendering in a Tablet-Style Format Using IPython.display, I rendered the checklist as an HTML table inside the notebook.

  4. Daily Automation (Optional Enhancement) You can schedule this using cron or a Jupyter scheduler to update/check tasks daily, loading a new file each day and archiving the previous one.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Inconsistent Document Formats: Some HTML files had nested structures, requiring smarter parsing logic with BeautifulSoup.
  2. Interactive Limitations: Checkboxes in pure HTML inside Jupyter aren't truly interactive without ipywidgets, so I had to explore that library as an enhancement.
  3. Dynamic Content: Ensuring the notebook reloads and processes the correct file every day was tricky and required scripting to handle dynamic filenames.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The final result was a clean, organized daily checklist auto-generated from any XML or text document. It saved time, improved task visibility, and made daily work easier to manage.

What we learned

One of the biggest takeaways from this project was learning how to combine different Python libraries to build a practical, real-world solution:

  1. BeautifulSoup made it easy to extract content from HTML documents, even when structure varied.
  2. Pandas provided a powerful, intuitive way to organize and manipulate task data.
  3. NumPy helped with bulk operations, like initializing checkboxes for each task.
  4. IPython.display enabled us to render the data in a more visually friendly format within Jupyter.

What's next for Data Conversion into Tablet checkmarks.

  1. Add ipywidgets for interactive checkboxes.
  2. Use python-docx or pdfminer to extract from CSV or PDF.
  3. Connect with a Google Sheet or cloud database to sync task status.
