Inspiration
I wanted to build a project that went beyond a simple static website and actually handled structured information in a useful way. That led me to explore how a web application could connect its interface to a database and make the information easy to manage and interact with.
What I Built
The project is a web application centered around a structured database. Users can interact with the information through the website rather than working directly with the database itself.
The project combines a frontend interface with backend logic and database operations, allowing information to be stored, retrieved, and managed dynamically.
How I Built It
I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend and Python/Flask with SQLite for the backend and database functionality.
I focused on making the different parts of the application communicate correctly: the user interacts with the website, the backend processes the request, and the database stores or retrieves the relevant information.
What I Learned
This project taught me much more about how the different layers of a web application fit together. I learned that building the interface is only one part of the problem—the database structure, backend logic, error handling, and communication between components are just as important.
I also became more comfortable debugging problems where the visible error wasn't necessarily where the actual problem originated.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was connecting the different parts of the application reliably. Small mistakes in database queries, backend logic, or data handling could cause problems somewhere completely different from where the mistake was made.
Getting everything to work together required a lot of testing and debugging, and it helped me understand the importance of building and testing each part of a system carefully.
