Inspiration
The challenge behind Daoabl was how can we build a crypto enabled community management platform, for large scale groups, who want to build a regenerative, inclusive and sustainability-based economy. The purpose was to unlock value in the regenerative movement - such as the creation of carbon credits that actually remove carbon - and take the beneficial experiences that we have in web3 - like the owner economy - into the real, material world.
The current DAO ecosystem has nearly $10 Billion in total treasury value and 1.7 million governance token holders. But each part of the DAO building toolkit is fractured across different platforms - and not designed for everyday people new to crypto. To build an operational DAO, you might need to use half a dozen platforms, which aren't interoperable without technical know-how.
Daoabl is meant for everyday people to build and manage large scale groups that will last long into the future and have all the benefits of web3 such as trustlessness, security, and transparency. After 20 years building communities online, and being an active part of the sustainability community, I've seen the challenges of how to do we encourage and reward partcipation in communal, alternate systems of economy, so that people maintain enthusiasm and engagement. People join, then get burnt out, or don't feel included or heard. Crypto has welcomed new ways of incentivising effort, but the interfaces that exist aren't user friendly, and can still reward bad behaviours such as speculation, pumps and dumps.
What it does
Daoabl is a no code, modular DAO builder, and the module that we continued working on for the Metaverse Hackathon was "Votabl". One of the main tasks that a group has to do to operative effectively is make decisions together. In Daoabl, an initiator can simulate an organisation by connecting a wallet, creating a poll, and then inviting a white list of wallets to vote on the poll. Daoabl tracks the statistics, and at the end of the poll shows the choice that was most popular.
Currently, there are limited one stop shop blockchain platforms for everyday people that provide tools for all the aspects of seamless community management. To see just how fractured the market for DAO services is, take a look at this image on Twitter: https://twitter.com/daodao_io/status/1521173954047610880/photo/1
How we built it
The code for Daoabl is built on Pyteal and is uploaded to Github and is open source, deployed on the Algorand mainnet.
Challenges we ran into
Our tech lead, Nic, was unable to continue with the Metaverse Hackathon, so we focussed on what wireframes would look like, and how a basic data architecture would function, based on the code that has been deployed so far. We would have liked to connect the code to a front end, to create the testable MVP, so this is still on our roadmap.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
During the Metaverse Hackathon, we had a awesome opportunity to build a team with diverse skills and backgrounds. Marco brought product design and user experience skills to design a seamless experience of wireframes. Nicola brought data analyst skills to design the data architecture. This is a great achievement, because neither Marco or Nicola has a background in DAOs, so had to learn about DAOs, how they work and how to improve them, from the ground up. Akasha worked on the branding, and now we have a cohesive brand image and USP that we can keep working together on.

What we learned
During this project, we learnt that there are other projects in the same space as Daoable - modular DAO builders - and that some of them are further ahead, and have larger funding pools. However, this also operates as idea validation - so that we know that we are on the right track with Daoabl. However, Daoabl maintains the difference from other community management platforms as being aimed at non crypto natives - the point of Daoabl is to provide a tool for the billions of people who rely on cooperatives and the commons - not just the small fraction of the world who are degens of the crypto world.
What's next for Daoabl
We are looking for strategic investment partners so that we can build and offer the first version of the platform as a DAO as a Service - DaaS - particularly the voting functions. Many organisations have already reached out to us wanting to use it, so we are keen to build it and keep developing the product as soon as possible! So we would like to incubate the project and do our first funding rounds and hopefully have it up as a Beta for the public to use by the end of the year.
