Inspiration

Inspired by childhood RPGs, this project condenses the classic turn-based combat experience into a standalone mechanic and added a timer to make it exciting. I pivoted from a full-scale RPG to a focused fighter to fit the contest timeline.

What it does

Danny MON (Mobile Observation Node) is a 1v1 fighter. Players command a Danny MON robot to reduce their opponent's health to zero. Earn xp to evolve your Danny MON robot through the stages of; Genesis, Proto, Core, Apex, and Final. The 5 types of Danny MON are; Atomic, Electric, Lava, Mud, and Ocean. Try to upgrade all 5.

How it was built

The project features custom art and 3D models. I built one mechanic at a time, relying heavily on a Gemini Gem for documentation and daily AI assistance to manage the complexity.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest hurdle was programming creative attack movements. While experienced in scripting logic, implementing dynamic movement required learning new skills.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I’m proud of the art, combat logic, and the comprehensive evolution system. It was a labor-intensive process that resulted in a polished final product.

What we learned

I learned to compartmentalize mechanics—perfecting one feature before moving to the next creates a much stronger code foundation than revisiting unfinished scripts.

What's next for Danny Mon

I plan to refine attack animations, expand the lore, and build new games featuring the Danny Mon characters.
