According to the Hi-tech fashion designer Anouk Wipprecht, the most innovative item high fashion today is lacking is microcontrollers. Anouk’s fashion incorporates sensors and servo motors to make her clothing pieces interactive on the runway. Iris van Herpen, another fashion designer whose pieces are worn by celebrities like Cara Delevingne, specializes in stereolithographic 3D printed clothing to mimic rigid elements of rock and minerals as well as flexible elements such as water. At the 2019 Met Gala (theme ‘camp’), Zendaya portals Cinderella where her dress utilizes carbon fibre reinforcements, actuators, and neopixels LED strips to simulate her raggedy dress into a fairy-tale ball gown (OKWODU 2019). Fashion technology like Anouk Wipprecht’s interactive dresses, Iris van Herpen’s 3D printed dresses, and Tommy Hilfiger’s LED Met Gala dresses are forever changing the fashion world of today.
