Inspiration
During this time of COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis, I saw many artists and dance teachers struggling since they live on the wages from their dance classes which were shut down. Those artists are creating their own online content but it is spread out across multiple social networks.
What it does
A common space where dancers/artists can promote their classes and at the same time, dancers can find classes. This process is easier and saves you more time for dancing!
How I built it
Using WordPress and Airtable as the database lookup.
Challenges I ran into
Making people submit their classes/socials on the website. Figuring the right data source to present the data on the website. Using a calendar view vs list view (I picked list view). Understanding how would users want to share the data.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I was able to make this site up and running in about 2 days. Received positive feedback from 3+ artists who wanted to have something similar for their content to be shared online.
What I learned
Using Airtable in WordPress. Understanding the needs of the artist community. Connecting with people who need help.
What's next for Dancing at a Distance
Creating a scraper that can scrape information from an event link (facebook, instagram). Making it easier for artists to submit information. Making the user experience of the site more usable based on feedback.
