Inspiration
Art of Eva Armisen Poem by Dawna Markova
What it does
Dance of Eva is an immersive, motion capture VR piece. In it, viewers experience the movement of a dancer choreographed to Dawna Markova's poem I Will Not Die an Unlived Life. The environment features art by Eva Armisen to complement the poetry and choregraphy.
How we built it
We used motion capture at MocapNow studios in Seattle, Unity, Final Cut Pro X to edit audio, and Unity Asset store and Pond5 for asset search and acquisition.
Challenges we ran into
First, working with motion capture is hard! We were so incredibly grateful to the folks at MoCap Now Studios who did not give up and worked hand in hand with us to output a clean, usable version of our recorded capture.
Second, hackathons are wickedly fast paced. There were times when people executed on the "last thing we agreed upon" but within a couple hours, our direction changed ... this led to some wasted effort. Luckily, everyone was a good sport about this.
Also, we were working outdoors for part of the hack and it turns out that sunlight and tracking don't get along.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our #1 priority was getting some motion capture into the project which we did! Everyone contributed in some way!
What we learned
The motion capture process was new to many people on the team. It was amazing to be able to work with the folks at MoCap Now and take advantage of their facility and expertise on our project. Everyone learnt at least one new thing in Unity while working on our shared project.
What's next for Dance of Eva
