Inspiration

ForeignInSing is a web app designed to create an online space for foreigners in Singapore who are unable to return home due to the covid 19 pandemic. As it is difficult for foreigners working in Singapore to meet their family members and friends due to the strict covid19 restrictions and quarantine measures, they are more likely to experience loneliness due the pandemic. In the post covid world, many jobs may remain as work from home as the default which may cause foreigners in Singapore to feel even more isolated. ForeignInSing seeks to alleviate this issue by introducing users to communities and interest groups with likeminded people that they can communicate with.

What it does

Our application acts as both a social networking platform and a platform for users to reach out to organisations created for foreigners in Singapore. ForeignInSing firstly acts as a social networking platform for people meet like minded individuals through the interest groups and communities created online. Users are also able to create their own communities on the platform to connect with like minded individuals, and they are also able to create events (online or physical) to invite others to participate in. Additionally, users are able to befriend other users by searching for their usernames and starting chats. ForeignInSing also aims to bring greater awareness to organisations in Singapore that are created to provide assistance for foreign workers in Singapore. This enables foreigners in Singapore to have a platform which connects them to organisations that they can receive assistance from, but were previously unknown to them.

How we built it

We built it with firebase backend with vue.js as the frontend framework, using phone number and sms OTP and login authentication. We used google maps api to help the visualization of events and locations.
