DANA (Confusion Detector)

Inspiration

As students, we are constantly gaining new knowledge in our field of study. So, we must have study materials, such as lecture videos or notes, to comprehend and fully understand the core concept of new topics. However, we may face difficulties wrapping our head around certain concepts that is hard to visualize.

What it does

Using our Dana Confusion Detector, it helps to clarify uncertainties of the concept that students are trying to understand. Through repeated playbacks to a certain timestamp on the video, pausing for a prolonged period at a timestamp, and repeatedly going to the same chapter, a small message icon will appear that says, "Having trouble with this part?", for which the user has the option to get assistants from our own GenAI tool. This tool will guide the student along with their problems, rather than providing the entire answer without learning anything.

How we built it

In the beginning, we agreed upon one problem that we all can brainstorm and provide our ideas; that is student-related problems. After coming up with an idea, each of us crafted a descriptive prompt in which the GenAI tool will generate the application. Initially, we used ChatGPT and Claude to help us build our Dana App. However, the app that the tools generated was not what we wished for. The two GenAI tools helped in seeing what was missing from our intended application features and designs. In the end, we used Base 44 to generate our app, and it succeeded in generating what our app is intended to do.

Challenges we ran into

We mostly struggled during the Ideation Phase, as most ideas we thought of had already been implemented or they are quite basic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to work as a team, where we struggled and overcame problems together through team coordination and proper communications.

What we learned

We learned the importance of hearing each other's opinions regarding our ideas, which helped tremendously in our Ideation Phase. It helps to visualize key details that we might miss or overlook, which could affect our app.

What's next for DANA (Confusion Detector)

The next step is trying to integrate our app to websites such as Learning Management System (LMS).
