Dalia's Book

Inspiration

I realized a few years ago that at the root of most social problems is the lack of education. Because people are not educated, they can't have jobs to make enough money and have a decent living. When this happens, they are constrained to take bad choices in order to survive. Freedom of choice disappears. Education is freedom to become who and what you want to be in life.

What it does

Encourages communities to get involved and teach children the skills that they need for the future of jobs, through technology.

How I built it

Designed volunteering programs and asked my friends if they want to get involved to volunteer to teach kids coding. I also knocked at the schools' doors.

Challenges I ran into

Changing the mentality of the people in the education system.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Dalia's Book was named Best Social Impact Startup in Romania by CESA and received the Best Digital Skills in Education Award from the European Commission in 2018.

What I learned

Change is hard. Persistence is key.
