Inspiration
Indonesia is currently facing two major issues: food waste and stunting. In 2023, data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry revealed that Indonesia generated 19.56 million tons of food waste, with 41% of this waste consisting of food remnants. On the other hand, stunting, caused by chronic malnutrition, remains a pressing issue. This is due to limited access to nutritious food, rising food prices due to inflation, and inadequate dietary intake, especially for children and pregnant women. At dakudaku, we see these interconnected problems as an opportunity for innovative solutions.
What it does
The dakudaku mobile app is designed to address food waste and stunting simultaneously. dakudaku provides affordable, nutritious, and easily accessible food. By partnering with local food producers, retailers, and restaurants, the app ensures that food that might otherwise go to waste can be repurposed to meet the nutritional needs of the population. Users can find and purchase nutritious food at affordable prices, tailored to their lifestyle and budget.
How we built it
We built dakudaku with a focus on collaboration and innovation. Our team developed this app during the Garuda Hacks hackathon using the latest technology to ensure a seamless user experience. We also plan to collaborate with local food producers and restaurants to ensure surplus food is effectively redirected and utilized. The development process involved research into the community's nutritional needs and the best methods for efficiently distributing food.
Challenges we ran into
During the development of the dakudaku app, we faced several challenges, including:
- Coordinating the team, which needed to be prioritized from the start of the hackathon.
- Time constraints, with only 36 hours available, requiring the team to strategize effectively to manage time.
- Dividing job responsibilities within the team to ensure good collaboration and efficient application development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of several accomplishments in creating dakudaku, including:
- Building a platform that will help the people of Indonesia in need.
- Reducing food waste and fostering a community that cares for one another.
- Potentially creating new job opportunities.
What we learned
- Collaboration between the development team and various stakeholders is essential.
- We realized that Indonesia has a significant gap in meeting nutritional needs, presenting a promising prospect for dakudaku's development.
- Technology is a powerful tool for addressing social issues.
What's next for dakudaku
We have several plans for the future of dakudaku, including:
- Refining the app's features to ensure it is user-friendly.
- Conducting user testing to identify and fix bugs and glitches.
- Launching educational campaigns to raise public awareness about the importance of reducing food waste and improving nutrition.
- Developing new features to enhance the user experience, such as loyalty programs, food recommendations based on nutritional preferences, and integration with delivery services.
