What inspired us

In Kenya, dairy farmers struggle to find big milk suppliers in time, leading to a lot of waste production of milk. Most dairy farmers face challenges regarding easy access to farm inputs, knowledge of the current market prices, and veterinary services for their livestock. Dairy Smart is an application that seeks to help farmers overcome these challenges through a suite of tools and services. It is an innovative application designed to help Kenyan dairy farmers streamline their operations and increase their profits. The app will offer a range of features that make it easy for farmers to manage their livestock, track their milk production, connect with buyers, connect with veterinary service providers, receive payments, and purchase farm inputs. With Dairy Smart, farmers can achieve greater efficiency, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to the growth of the Kenyan dairy industry.

How we built the project

We developed a web app layout in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Due to our time constraints, we could only demonstrate the layout with some help from ChatGPT3 and not a mobile application. However, we have all the moving code components/platforms of our application ready and we believe it is lays a strong foundation to develop our application further.

Challenges faced

We wanted to add data regarding Kenya dairy farming costs, but this data was hard to find. Additionally, we do not have much experience in app development so it was a little hard to get started with our code. Since our application has multiple components, we were not sure how to integrate it all into a mobile application but that is something we need to work on in the future.
