Inspiration
Inspired by the growing use of AI as a psychiatrist, we created this project to alert college students (and other people too!) about the dangers of solely relying on LLMs to diagnose and help with their mental health. While we are not opposed to using LLMs to help individuals suffering from mental health problems, current LLMs aren't robust enough.
What it does
On the website's home page, the user is presented with three scenarios. Upon clicking a scenario, the user goes through a demo showcasing the weaknesses of current LLMs in serving as psychiatrists. While we prompt engineered Google Gemini, we wanted to show that LLMs can be easily manipulated by third parties & thus can not be trusted in their current form. After the demo, the user can go to a resource page with helpful links individuals can use to seek professional help.
How we built it
We learned and used React and Bootstrap over the course of one day to implement the website's UI. Through online tutorials, we learned the fundamentals of React, such as Components & Hooks, and styled our website using the Bootstrap CSS classes. After developing our website, we deployed it using Github Pages.
Challenges we ran into
As high-schoolers with limited time and little web development and hackathon experience (this is our second hackathon as a duo), the main challenges we faced were learning React and Bootstrap. Fortunately, through YouTube tutorials, we successfully implemented our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we learned React and Bootstrap, created a helpful demo, and our first live website!
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of React, Bootstrap, and JavaScript web development all in 12 hours!
What's next for dAinger
We want to expand dAinger into better interactive demos that showcase the fallbacks of LLMs in a more natural environment, provide suggestions or develop techniques to mitigate the current weaknesses of LLMs, and improve our Resources Page by adding features that can help individuals with mental health issues. We also want to use our new React and Bootstrap skills to improve the UI to use up more of the screen real-estate.
