Inspiration

Many students encounter fascinating phenomena every day—why the sky changes color, why ice floats, or how phones connect to the internet—but often don't have a simple way to explore the science behind them. We created DailyWhy to transform everyday curiosity into meaningful STEM learning. Our goal is to make science more engaging, accessible, and interactive for students of all backgrounds.

What it does

DailyWhy is an AI-powered STEM learning platform that helps users discover the science behind everyday questions. Users can ask questions in natural language, such as "Why is the sky blue?" or "How do airplanes fly?" and receive beginner-friendly explanations. After each explanation, DailyWhy generates a short quiz to reinforce learning and help users check their understanding. The platform also suggests related questions and STEM concepts for deeper exploration.

How we built it

We built DailyWhy using modern web technologies and AI-powered language processing. The platform accepts user questions, analyzes them, and generates age-appropriate STEM explanations. We designed a quiz-generation system that automatically creates comprehension questions based on the explanation provided. The user interface was built to be simple, engaging, and accessible for students, encouraging curiosity-driven learning.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was ensuring that explanations remained accurate while still being easy for beginners to understand. We also had to design quizzes that effectively tested comprehension without being too difficult or too simple. Another challenge was connecting related STEM topics in a way that encourages continued exploration and learning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a platform that turns curiosity into education. DailyWhy goes beyond simply answering questions by helping students understand concepts, test their knowledge, and discover new areas of STEM. We successfully combined AI-powered explanations with interactive learning features to create a more engaging educational experience.

What we learned

Through building DailyWhy, we learned how AI can be used to support education in a meaningful way. We gained experience designing learning experiences, simplifying complex scientific concepts, and creating systems that encourage active participation rather than passive consumption. We also learned the importance of balancing accuracy, simplicity, and engagement.

What's next for DailyWhy

We plan to expand DailyWhy with image-based questions, voice interactions, personalized learning paths, and progress tracking. We also want to introduce gamification features such as badges, achievements, and learning streaks to keep students motivated. In the future, DailyWhy will support multiple languages and offer curriculum-aligned STEM learning experiences for students around the world. 🚀🔬📚
