Inspiration
Learning STEM can often feel difficult because many explanations are filled with technical jargon and disconnected from everyday life. We wanted to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics more engaging by helping learners discover the science behind the things they experience every day. DailyWhy was inspired by the simple question people ask every day: "Why?"
What it does
DailyWhy is an AI-powered STEM learning platform that helps users explore the science behind everyday questions. Users can ask questions like "Why is the sky blue?" or upload an image of an object, and Gemini AI provides simple, personalized explanations. The platform also generates interactive quizzes, fun facts, safe hands-on experiments, and recommends related STEM topics to encourage deeper learning
How we built it
We built DailyWhy using a modern web application architecture with a responsive frontend and backend integrated with the Gemini API. Gemini powers natural language understanding, personalized explanations, quiz generation, and STEM concept recommendations. We designed the platform to provide an engaging learning experience through AI-driven conversations and interactive educational content.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that AI explanations remained scientifically accurate while being easy for beginners to understand. We also focused on creating prompts that generate age-appropriate quizzes and learning activities while keeping the experience engaging and interactive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a platform that makes STEM education more accessible by connecting everyday curiosity with AI-powered learning. Instead of simply answering questions, DailyWhy encourages exploration through quizzes, experiments, and related concepts that help users build a deeper understanding.
What we learned
This project taught us how AI can make education more personalized and interactive. We also learned the importance of simplifying complex scientific concepts without losing accuracy, allowing learners of different ages and backgrounds to enjoy STEM education.
What's next for DailyWhy
Our next goal is to expand DailyWhy with voice conversations, multilingual support, personalized learning paths, progress tracking, teacher dashboards, classroom collaboration, gamification, achievement badges, and support for more STEM subjects. We also plan to introduce AI-powered learning companions that adapt to each learner's interests and pace, making STEM education even more engaging and accessible.
