Inspiration
DailyMint was born from a very personal problem: I wanted to read and learn more, but like many people, I often felt I did not have enough time to sit down with a full book.
Before building this app, I was already using ChatGPT to help me write and organize texts for products on a website. I had the idea for DailyMint in my head, but I did not know how to turn it into a real mobile app. When I started working with Codex, that changed. Codex became my engineering partner, helping me understand the code, build features, fix problems, organize the project, and learn while creating.
What it does
DailyMint is a calm micro-reading app focused on personal growth. Users complete short readings, water a knowledge tree, build streaks, earn XP, unlock fruits by category, and slowly watch their tree evolve.
The goal is not aggressive gamification. The goal is emotional attachment: making the user feel that every small reading is a real act of cultivation.
How we built it
DailyMint was built with React Native, Expo, TypeScript, Firebase, Zustand and React Navigation.
During Build Week, Codex was the main development environment and coding partner used to turn DailyMint from an early idea into a pre-launch mobile experience. Codex helped implement Firebase progress, protected reading history, tree health and restart logic, post-reading rituals, reports, ratings, premium/free rules, garden decorations, and a structured reading library.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was learning how to think like a product builder while also learning the technical side. I had to test the app with multiple accounts, adjust the user experience, fix reading progress, preserve Spanish accents and ñ, design the tree evolution system, and make the app feel calm instead of noisy.
Another challenge was keeping the app emotionally warm while adding systems like XP, streaks, premium restrictions and tree death. I wanted the experience to feel motivating, not stressful or childish.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that DailyMint is no longer just an idea: it already feels like a real product. The app has onboarding, Firebase login, reading timers, daily streaks, XP, tree evolution, fruits, reports, ratings, premium/free behavior, a garden shop, and real users testing it.
I am also proud that the core idea stayed intact: every reading should feel like watering your mind.
What we learned
I learned that building an app is not just writing code. It is making hundreds of small decisions about how a user should feel.
DailyMint taught me that even a five-minute reading can become meaningful when the experience around it is designed with care. I also learned how powerful it can be to work with Codex as a coding partner: not just to generate code, but to keep building, debugging and improving one step at a time.
What's next for DailyMint
The next step is launching DailyMint on Android for Spanish-speaking users. I want to keep expanding the reading library, improve the tree animations, add more personalization, polish premium features, and use feedback from real users to decide where the product should grow.
Long term, I want DailyMint to become a calm learning companion for people who want to read more, build better habits and cultivate knowledge one small reading at a time.
