Inspiration

The idea for DailyDash was born out of my own frustration with managing a cluttered digital workspace. I constantly found myself juggling multiple tabs, switching between calendar apps, weather websites, and news feeds just to plan my day efficiently. It felt chaotic, and I knew there had to be a better way to put everything into one intuitive platform. That’s how DailyDash came to life—a centralized dashboard designed to simplify everyday interactions with technology and help people stay organized without the digital mess.

What it does

DailyDash is a daily hub meant to provide users a place where they can easily and quickly find the resources they desire. Daily dash has numerous features, meant to enhance the user's experience and ensure DailyDash is the only place they need to go to. DailyDash includes weather updates, news updates, email updates, a to-do list, a customizable calendar, and more!

How we built it

I built DailyDash with a plethora of APIs, in order to provide our users the best, most up-to-date experience possible. I used apis such as Openweatherapi, Newsapi, and others to make DailyDash come to life. I used Flask for my backend framework, and javascript for normal functions. Obviously, css and html were the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

During this week, I had hundreds of syntax errors as I was building DailyDash. This was extremely frustrating, especially with new concepts, and made me often spend hours looking on stack overflow for help. However, I persevered through these challenges and managed to build the website. The ability to quickly find documentation and comprehend it is something I wish I had while making DailyDash.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Over the course of this week, I had to learn several new concepts I had never even touched. I was incredibly inexperienced with APIs and was mainly a backend programmer, who never even touched web development. So, I was scared to try out front-end and expected my websites to look old and slow. However, I believe DailyDash turned out pretty good! I'm proud that I made a helpful website with a decent UI in just a week.

What we learned

During the production of DailyDash, I had to understand languages I was barely used to. I mainly just used javascript and python, so css and html were pretty much brand new to me. I learned how to create animations with css, which made my website look much better. I learned about APIs and just how useful they can be when making something like DailyDash. I learned how to easily navigate the chrome console to quickly solve errors.

What's next for DailyDash

I don't plan to stop working on DailyDash. I do believe that DailyDash is a very helpful website, at least to me, and I want to keep adding to it. I plan, in the future, to add AI optimization of tasks and events to enhance our user's experience. Although I wanted to incorporate AI into DailyDash BEFORE the submission, I did not have enough time.
