During COVID-19, the rates of depression and mental illnesses among people (especially young adults) had witnessed a surge in numbers. We decided to combat this issue by informing people about which happiness hormones are triggered while partaking in specific activities.

What it does

The app allows the user to enter in all the self-care activities that they has done by the end of the day. The app then informs the user of the happiness chemicals/hormones that were released by doing that particular activity be it - Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin or Endorphins. This allows the user to find out if they had met the requirements for self-care on that day in order to maintain a health mental wellbeing. The app then suggests other activities that can be done in order to trigger that particular hormone.

How we built it

We've built the web app using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, React.js, Restful APIs, Python, SQL ORM, Django and SQL Cursor Queries.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled at hosting Django through 3rd party services as GitHub supports in hosting more of static websites. Creating an interface between React.js front-end and Django server through APIs was tough , also it turned out slightly challenging to finish our project within the allotted 24 hour period.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we managed to collaborate with team-mates around the world to make a meaningful app that serves a purpose as important as improving mental health of people in times such as these.

What we learned

Along with technical skills like Restful APIs , SQL ORMs , etc we got to explore the necessity of good mental health and stress management in the wake of recent times.

What's next for daily D.O.S.E. of happiness

We intend on improving the U.I. of the app. We also would like to implement more features and helpful resources so that the users can learn more about these happiness hormones to have better mental health during the pandemic.
