Inspiration

In an era of rapid-fire news cycles, local communities are constantly bombarded with headlines that can leave people feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Local churches and Christian NGOs want to step into these moments to offer hope and a listening ear, but keeping up with the daily news and finding the right, context-aware biblical encouragement in real-time is incredibly time-consuming. We wanted to build a bridge between the immediate realities of local communities and the timeless, grounding comfort of Scripture—helping faith organizations meet people exactly where they are, when they need it most.

What it does

Daily Comfort is an AI-powered web platform that empowers faith-based organizations to easily create and share timely, encouraging content.

  • Scans the Local Horizon: The app automatically aggregates recent, local news stories and community updates.
  • Contextual Scripture Pairing: Using LLM to apply relevant biblical passages of comfort, hope, and resilience.
  • Dynamic HTML Visualizations: Instead of just outputting plain text, the app generates beautiful, interactive HTML/CSS animations of the comfort messages, ready for social media feeds or digital signage.

How we built it

  • Backend: Fastapi with langgraph as the GenAI workflow
  • News Integration: We integrated SERPAPI APIs to fetch geotargeted headlines.
  • AI & Biblical Matching: We utilized LLMs to generate comfort message with relevant biblical passages
  • Code-as-Art Generation: We prompted our LLM to dynamically generate clean, responsive HTML and CSS keyframe animations featuring the comfort text, providing an instant visual asset without relying on external design tools.

Challenges we ran into

  • The Chinese Character Rendering Trap: Initially, we wanted to use popular text-to-image generative models to create social media graphics. However, we quickly realized these models are notoriously terrible at rendering Chinese characters, often outputting illegible gibberish or incorrect strokes.
  • The Pivot to HTML: To bypass this, we decided to leverage LLMs to write raw HTML/CSS code instead. This allowed us to perfectly render beautiful Chinese typography while adding elegant, smooth motion animations that static images could never achieve.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Flawless Visuals: By using HTML animations, we completely bypassed the limitations of AI image generators, ensuring that Chinese messages are displayed with pixel-perfect typography.
  • Empathetic AI Generation: We successfully built a generation pipeline that consistently outputs warm, grounded, and non-judgmental language.
  • Frictionless Workflow: We turned what would normally take a ministry leader an hour of research, drafting, and graphic design into a 30-second workflow.

What we learned

  • Code is a highly versatile creative medium: Using an LLM as a front-end developer (to generate animations) rather than just a writer opened up a brand new way to create robust, lightweight visual content on the fly.
  • Context is everything: AI is incredibly powerful, but it requires context when handling faith and community care.

What's next for daily comfort

  • HTML-to-Video/GIF Export: Integrating a backend rendering service (like Puppeteer) to automatically convert the live HTML animations into shareable .mp4 or .gif formats for direct upload to Instagram and Facebook.
  • Localization & Dialects: Expanding language support to generate localized slang or cultural nuances, ensuring the comfort messages feel genuinely homegrown.
  • Custom Tone Profiles: Allowing organizations to adjust the "voice" of the generator to match their specific community's personality—ranging from youth-focused and energetic to traditional and reflective.
