Inspiration
I'm a biology teacher with a folder of drawings nobody asked for: the weird animals, not the famous ones. They'd been sitting in a repo with photographs, licences and a few hundred facts, doing nothing.
The other half was irritation. Every app I open wants me to stay: feeds, streaks, daily quests, badges with numbers on them. I wanted the opposite. Something that hands you one thing and then tells you to go away.
What it does
One hand-drawn animal card a day. Unlock it and it's yours: flip it for a photograph, three facts, the scientific name, and a four-question quiz.
Your first three are free, one of them holo. Tilt the phone and the foil moves across it, which is the entire reason holo cards exist.
How I built it
I learnt iOS-Development in 2019 with an udemy-course. Many courses and tutorials followed. Today many tasks did Claude Code.
Challenges I ran into
CoreMotion was tough to understand
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I think it's a no bullshit, clean and fun app.
What I learned
- iOS-Development gets easier
- revenuecat is cool ;)
What's next for Daily Bestiary
- drawing more animals
- Share Sheet for Cards
- extend idea to plants, historical persons, whatever
