Inspiration

What it does

Pulls a dad joke from a website and allows you to send it to varying locations (ie: Text Message, Email, Discord)

How we built it

Through Google App Script which allows access to all the G-Suit docs where we can record and send dad jokes whenever. The script is set to run once a day for a daily dad joke.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was trying to get the joke to send to Discord through either a bot or webhook. After looking through tutorials and documentation, we figured out how to link the script to Discord. A second challenge we faced was trying to make sure there were no repeated jokes, this required us to log each joke which could've caused an issue if we coded outside of Google App Script.

What's next for Dad Joke Sender

The first step would be an app or website interface where you can customize where/when dad joke(s) are sent to you. Next we would like to have our own AI or ML joke generator instead of pulling them from an exterior source.
