Inspiration

Air pollution, especially PM2.5 particles, is a serious global health threat, causing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. In Kazakhstan, many regions lack real-time air quality monitoring. Dabyl was created to provide an affordable, accessible, and accurate solution to track air pollution and empower people to take action.

What It Does

Dabyl is a smart air quality monitoring device that detects PM2.5 and PM10 levels in real time. It transmits data via: • A Telegram bot for instant updates. • A website for real-time tracking and historical data. • A planned mobile app for wider accessibility.

This helps individuals and policymakers reduce exposure and advocate for cleaner air.

How We Built It

We integrated MQ-135, BME280, and DSM501A sensors with an Arduino-based microcontroller. The data is processed and sent via ESP8266 Wi-Fi to our custom-built website and Telegram bot. The 3D-printed casing ensures durability, and extensive testing validated its accuracy.

Challenges We Ran Into • Calibrating sensors for precise readings. • Ensuring stable real-time data transmission. • Balancing affordability with high performance. • Raising public awareness of air pollution risks.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of • Successfully developing an accurate and cost-effective monitoring device. • Building a real-time alert system via Telegram and a web platform. • Raising awareness through public engagement and surveys.

What We Learned • Real-time data drives action and awareness. • User-friendly solutions encourage public engagement. • Collaboration strengthens impact and adoption.

What’s Next for Dabyl • Expanding deployment in high-risk areas. • Developing a mobile app for better accessibility. • Integrating AI for predictive air quality analysis. • Partnering with environmental organizations for global impact.
