Inspiration

We were inspired by the popular kid's movie How To Train Your Dragon and the main character's prosthetic that he uses to help fly his dragon. Along with that, we were inspired by a relative that lost their leg due to a medical procedure.

What it does

Our prosthetic is a leg prosthesis that is specifically built to attach onto a redesigned bike pedal and allow above-ankle and below-knee amputees to bike freely as if they had a regular leg. This is done by creating the leg prosthetic itself along with a redesigned foot and pedal that snap together in place to prevent any slippage and maximize output efficiency.

How we built it

We built it using Fusion 360.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a few challenges trying to find accurate dimensions and decided to research standard measurements and used those to design our whole prosthesis.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of the fact that were were able to take into account many different design considerations to make sure that the product was ease to mass produce and takes into account the safety of the user.

What we learned

We learned that there are a lot of biomechanics that go into the cycling process and the amount of load that a prosthesis needs to handle is a lot in comparison to a simple leg prosthesis used for walking and normal activities.

What's next for Cycling Prosthetic

We hope to make the design adjustable and accessible to all people with all kinds of disabilities.
