Inspiration
I was inspired to build CyberShield after receiving a suspicious message from a scammer asking for money who was impersonating my friend. It made me realize how easily scams can interrupt everyday life and create confusion. I also saw scam stories in news, including a Bay Area FasTrak text scam where a man lost over $3,300, and a retired California couple who lost $845,000 after scammers impersonated officials. However the problem is that many people lack the practical knowledge to recognize threats such as phishing emails, weak passwords, and suspicious links. I wanted to create an engaging way to teach essential cybersecurity concepts through interactive learning instead of traditional reading materials. My goal was to make cybersecurity education simple, fun, and accessible for students of all skill levels.
What it does
CyberShield Quiz is an interactive cybersecurity learning game that combines short educational lessons with multiple-choice questions. Before answering each question, users read a brief lesson explaining an important cybersecurity concept. The quiz provides instant feedback, updates the user's cyber safety score, and tracks progress throughout the game. Players must answer at least 7 out of 10 questions correctly to successfully complete the challenge.
How I built it
I built CyberShield Quiz as a web-based application using HTML,CSS and Javascript. The quiz logic manages questions, scoring, lesson display, feedback, timers, and game progression. Educational cybersecurity content was carefully written to cover topics such as phishing, password security, social engineering, software updates, and safe browsing. The interface was designed with a clean, modern appearance to create an engaging learning experience.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing questions that were educational without being too easy or too difficult. I also worked to present helpful feedback without interrupting the learning experience, while keeping the interface intuitive and visually appealing. Balancing educational content with an engaging quiz format required several iterations.
Accomplishments that I am proud of Combined education and assessment into a single engaging experience. Designed the project so it can easily be expanded with additional cybersecurity topics and questions.
What I learned
Through this project, I gained experience designing educational software that keeps users engaged while teaching important concepts. I improved my skills in web application development, user interface design, state management, and organizing educational content into an interactive learning experience. I also learned the importance of providing immediate feedback to improve knowledge retention.
What's next for CyberShield
My future plans include:
Expanding the question bank with additional cybersecurity topics and real-world scenarios. Adding multiple difficulty levels for beginners and advanced users. Introducing achievements, badges, and leaderboards to increase engagement. Providing personalized learning recommendations based on quiz performance. Supporting classrooms with teacher dashboards to monitor student progress. Adding multilingual support to make cybersecurity education accessible to a wider audience. Developing a mobile-friendly version so users can practice cybersecurity skills anytime and anywhere.
